Fall/Winter 2003 Bondage Strap Jacket

The Story

Stefano Gabbana called Fall/Winter 2003 “techno romance,” a rather direct title for a runway featuring technical outerwear thrown over the house’s signature corset dresses. This jacket is the techno side of that idea pushed as far as it goes. Going into those shows, D&G’s sales had jumped 48% in a year and Gabbana was telling the trade press they’d hit a billion euros by 2005. In January the men’s show opened Milan’s menswear week with a man Corriere della Sera described as “harnessed like a paratrooper.” In March Linda Evangelista, the supermodel famous for saying she wouldn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day, came back to the runway for the first time in almost ten years. She opened the women’s show in a tangerine parka over a black corset dress, which summed up the whole season.
